About Us

Hello Friends,
My husband and I bought an older double-wide mobile home last year. We are in the process of completely rebuilding it inside and out. A new house would cost us roughly between $68,000-$97,000. With me back in college full-time and him running a small business, this was not an option. After much consideration we decided to completely rebuild this home for under $20,000.
Our Project
Our Inspiration
Our goal is to turn this 52 feet long by 24 feet wide home into a Southern Style Cracker House. I remember growing up in my grandparents home and driving past all the “old houses”. This rebuild will really  “bring me home”. My husband is from Washington State, so he is relying on my memory and strategic planning pencil drawings to get us through this rebuild.
This major project started in October of 2010. There have been many runs to the hardware store and ‘time-outs” for both of us. Trailers, in case you did not know, are put together with staples. Tearing apart the old has been the toughest part yet. Second to that, leveling everything inside the home. When an older mobile home settles, you have to adjust your measurements.
Overall, we have become tired, cranky, skipped meals, lost sleep and missed many family parties. Now that some of the major issues have been addressed we are getting to the part of putting it back together and laying down the “icing”-decorating. He is happy, I am happy and my son is ready for his own room again!
Feel free to contact me regarding any of the blog posts. I will be more than glad to explain in more detail or give you pointers for your own projects. We are not professionals! I know what I want and my husband is trying to piece it together just by my speaking it. This should be fun! Stick around, we hope you enjoy your visit!
